During the Morgan Wallen concert at Allegiant Stadium on Aug. 9, Zimmerman was the opener right before Wallen.
Why Did the Crowd Boo Bailey Zimmerman?
While Zimmerman was performing in a silver Raiders crewneck, a hum of "boos" started to erupt. One of our amazing listeners, Rachel, recorded and posted a TikTok.
In her video, which had amassed over 4 million views, the crowd was heard yelling a cacophony of "boos," and the volume gets louder while Zimmerman sings "Never Leave."
He paused between lyrics and even gave a thumbs down. He looked confused until he realized that it could have been his Raiders gear that sparked the crowd's disapproval.
Then the country singer said, "You guys want me to take it off or what?"
After Zimmerman snaked the Raiders shirt off, he started performing and singing shirtless. This is when he said, "Alright now that we're passed that, can I sing some more or what?"
He then proceeded to sing the rest of "Never Leave," and the "boos" subsided.
Why Does Las Vegas Hate The Raiders?
After this jersey mishap, many social media users asked WHY Las Vegas hates the Raiders to that extent. The answer is a tad bit more complicated than one would hope. According to a report from Silver and Black Pride, a Raiders-focused publication, the move to Vegas ripped the football team away from the fabric of the Oakland fans. To many die-hard Raider fans, this was morally wrong on many levels.
"To move this team now, right before their moment of triumph, is to spit in the face of its loyal fans and rob them of the cathartic reward for all the years of suffering through bad football," the article states.
Along with this aspect, Las Vegas is a transient city. According to Vivid Seats, people in Nevada also root for the San Francisco 49ers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Pittsburg Steelers. People in the TikTok were also saying that country fans don't love the Raiders in comparison to other teams. So, these factors created the perfect cauldron of confusion and awkwardness during Zimmerman's set.
Fans Reactions To Bailey Zimmerman's Performance In Las Vegas
Despite being booed on stage, Zimmerman handled the situation gracefully. In the TikTok video, people were commenting on their surprise and sadness for Zimmerman.
One user said, "Sweet baby. He’s just a kid. His feelings at first were probably so hurt."
Another comment said, "Bless his heart he looked so confused and sad at first 😭."
Other TikTok users said, "This doesn’t make sense lol Morgan Wallen came out right after him in a Raiders jersey?" Then another user commented that, "We booed him too but he didn’t take it off lol. It was funny, nobody actually took it personal."
What do you think of this situation? It appears that the "boos" were more of a reflection of the jersey rather than Zimmerman's artistic ability. The crowd still grooved to the rest of his set, and they exploded for Morgan Wallen.
It isn't a wonderful feeling to have 1,000s of fans boo you. But, he handled it like a true country musician. Plus, we're not too mad that he gave us a shirtless performance. Check out the video below from our friend @Rachel.Hannah5, and thank her for letting us use this video.
