Lainey Wilson Drops Southern Accent During Today Show Interview
My friend, Lainey Wilson, probably has my favorite voice of all time. It’s a voice that I’ve loved ever since meeting her for the first time at Cowboy Christmas so many years ago. Her Southern accent is one of the most recognizable throughout country music and I’ve even told her to her face that I wish her voice was my inner monologue. And listen, if there’s ever a movie about my life, I want her to narrate it. I don’t even care if that makes sense or not because that’s just how much I love her voice. I think it’s fantastic! But did you know, Lainey Wilson is able to drop her Southern accent entirely? It’s wild when you hear her do it, because when you know Lainey, you just expect that distinctive Southern drawl!
Lainey Wilson Showed a Different Side of Her
However, Lainey was recently interviewed by the fine folks at the Today Show, and during the interview she revealed a different side of herself – her “valley girl” persona. I loved the way that Lainey didn’t shy away when asked about it, but she did admit that it doesn’t feel like her when she does it and it kinda freaks her out a little bit. She also asked the film crew to please “… don’t laugh.”
That’s when the voice came out. She hinted that it probably just sounded like a girl from Louisiana who’s trying to not sound like she’s from Louisiana. My favorite part of the whole thing was Willie Geist’s reaction. The Today Show host told her, “… it sounded like you inhaled helium!”
Fans Want More
Looking throughout the comments on the clip the Today Show shared on social media, fans seemed to be as equally impressed as Willie Geist! The clip does make you wonder what kind of acting roles Lainey could take where she’d ditch her signature Southern accent entirely.
