The Top Hot Dog Style For Each State
The hot dog is always one of the most popular food items during this time of the year. With summer temperatures upon us and as the 4th of July approaches, people across the country will be firing up their grills this week! Fireworks, parades and backyard barbeques are all quintessential for Independence Day – As is, the American hot dog. Nathan’s even holds their annual hot dog eating contest every 4th of July. However, Joey Chestnut won’t be competing in it this year!
The Hot Dog Come In a Variety of Styles
If you’ve ever been to Dirt Dog, here in Las Vegas, you know the popular meal comes in a variety of styles across the nation. However, if you’ve ever pondered about changing up the hot dog style for your 4th of July cookout, Google Trends just put out an interesting map that revealed the top hotdog styles of each state.
Some results, like the “Chicago style dogs” from Illinois, were predictable, but there were some other styles that definitely stood out for their uniqueness. Here are some that you may want to try this summer!
Korean Hot Dog
According to Google, the Korean style hot dog was the top trending style in the most states this year, including here in Nevada! That surprised me, because I didn’t even know what a Korean style hot dog was until now! In case you’re also wondering, a Korean style hot dog is similar to a corn dog, however they have a different batter. Apparently, they’re crunchier than your standard corn dog. I also discovered that there’s a place called “CrunCheese Korean Hot Dog” on Spring Mountain. It sounds good, and I’d like to try one!
The Sonoran Dog
When I went to school in Tempe, Arizona, these kinds of hot dogs were directly responsible for the “freshman 15” I gained! They’re so good! Think of it as a bacon wrapped hot dog, shoved within a bread roll and topped with a bunch of Hispanic flavors. There’s a place called “Tacos Y Hot Dogs Sonora” on Las Vegas Blvd that has these on their menu – and they’re delicious!
Crescent Roll Hot Dog
Folks in New Mexico are the ones who search Google for this style of Hot Dog. These dogs resemble “pig in a blanket” but are larger and usually include cheese. Could be a good appetizer option for your 4th of July feast.
Red Hot Dog
Also known as a “snapper” style hot dog, this style is popular in the Carolinas, Georgia and across the Northeast. It’s a spicy type of hot dog with a red casing.
