Patrick Mahomes Will Now Have His Logo On The Texas Tech Field
Earlier this week Texas Tech University announced they will be moving on from their deal with Under Armour and have agreed to join forces with Adidas. Under this new 10-year partnership the Texas Tech football field will now feature a large Patrick Mahomes logo.
If your curiosity is now running wild like #15, let’s break this down. For starters, Mahomes was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs out of Texas Tech in 2017. As the 10th overall pick, there was not a ton of hype on Mahomes at the time. In fact, the Chicago Bears selected Mitchell Trubisky over Mahomes in that draft. However, it’s what the 3-time Super Bowl champ has accomplished since that has further emphasized what Mahomes accomplished while being a college student in Lubbock.
As a pro, Mahomes is an Adidas athlete. Though while he was playing in college, he too sported the Under Armour branding as the Red Raiders were in partnership with them since 2009.
“The day has come. Adidas, let’s rip off the tape,” Texas Tech posted to their socials yesterday with the handshake emoji.
The Patrick Mahomes Logo Football Field Is Revealed
With an Adidas branded helicopter flying overhead what you see in sequence here is as follows; a white Adidas logo on the football field, the Texas Tech logo at the 50-yard line, and then Mahomes’ signature “PM gladiator” logo. In conjunction. Sports Illustrated said that Mahomes “helped bring the new partnership to fruition.”
The all-pro quarterback and reigning Super Bowl MVP has always been openly supportive of his college program. “Mahomes, who played both football and baseball in Lubbock, was the first to reveal the news of Texas Tech becoming an Adidas school by recreating a shirt he wore to a Red Raider basketball game in 2019,” Sports Illustrated continued.
This new partnership also includes Adidas making up the university’s uniforms and allows athletes to pursue NIL deals with the brand. You can get a glimpse of their new look on the team’s Instagram page.
In late 2022, Texas Tech inducted Mahomes (who was #5 in college) into their ring of honor. In fact, the Netflix show Quarterback captured this in detail and beautifully in their series. Now, Mahomes will return the favor and inspire all those who step into that stadium with his logo right there on the playing field.
“I wouldn’t be where I am today if it weren’t for Texas Tech and I’m proud to have helped bring Red Raider Nation into the three-stripe fam,” Mahomes said in a press release shared by KansasCity.com.
