Study Reveals Why You Shouldn’t Buy Blue Kids Bathing Suits
There’s a year-old study about kids bathing suits that’s making the rounds again today, and I wanted to share it with you because it’s always good to be reminded about water safety, especially when children are involved!
I don’t need to tell you, it’s really hot outside right now! We’re seeing record temperatures across the entire country. So it comes as no surprise that more and more families are heading to pools or lakes to help beat the heat!
The color of your bathing suit probably has never crossed your mind as something dangerous. However, a study that came out last year made us realize that your bathing suit could potentially affect your chances of being rescued during an emergency! And because more people are using their pools right now, I think it’s a study that bears to be revisited.
Can A Kids Bathing Suit Be Dangerous?
According to the study, when shopping for bathing suits, it’s a good idea to avoid certain colors – specifically light green and light blue! Especially when it comes to children, or anyone who doesn’t consider themselves to be a strong swimmer.
The safety company who conducted the study, Alive Solutions, ran their tests in both a lake setting and a swimming pool. What they found was pretty shocking! Light green and blue were the hardest to see struggling underwater, especially in the lake setting. White was also a color that was hard to see in the pool setting. Take a look at THIS IMAGE and see for yourself. It’s pretty crazy how hard some of these colors are to see once underwater, which of course would make it harder for parents or lifeguards to spot in the event of an accident.
A TikTok user by the name of Nikki Scarnati also covered this on her page. Most of the comments on her post are positive ones, but there were some people in there saying you shouldn’t take your eyes off your children, but I think it’s good to remember that drowning can happen really fast! According to the website Stop Drowning Now, a person can drown in as little as 20 seconds. Think about that… it’s a scary thought.
What Color Kids Bathing Suit Should You Buy?
Alive Solutions tested 14 different colors and they found out that neon colors stood out as the safest, with neon pink and orange being the easiest colors to spot in a pool. Neon orange was also the top performer in natural bodies of water, like lakes and the ocean.
