“Feels damn good to release this new badass version and couldn’t think of a better person to reimagine this song than an icon like Avril!! “Bulletproof” ft. @avrillavigne (aka. Honey Boo Boo Bear, Pookie, etc) is out!!!! Get ya some,” Smith posted on Instagram.
Lavigne commented on the post saying, “Let’s rock this s— tonight at the ACMs!!!!!!”
The original version of Smith’s “Bulletproof” is featured on his Through The Smoke EP, which he dropped last month. His country anthem now has a fun twist to it with the addition of Lavigne’s edgy vocals.
“This song was one that that I asked Ashley Gorley for. I said, ‘Hey, if you got any songs that you want to pitch to me for my upcoming projects, I would love to hear them,'” Smith told Backstage Country.
He continued, “It’s amazing that country radio is already embracing it so much. It just felt right to me. This is another obsession song; I listened to it a thousand times and I was like, if I love it that much, I hope that somebody else might too.”
Smith’s “Bulletproof” and re-release with Lavigne follows his No. 1 smash hit, “World On Fire.” While the 38-year-old continues to take the country genre by storm, there’s no stopping him now.
It was officially announced that Smith is this year’s New Male Artist of the Year ACM Award winner. He follows previous winners in the category, including Zach Bryan, Parker McCollum, and Riley Green, among others, over the years.
Smith is currently out on the road for Morgan Wallen’s One Night At A Time 2024 tour, with upcoming stops in New Jersey, Minnesota, and Colorado. He will kick off his headlining Through The Smoke tour this fall with John Morgan and Karley Scott Collins on select dates.
