My Awkward Encounter With OJ Simpson
I’m truly interested to learn how many of you have had an encounter with OJ Simpson, because I feel like so many people around the Vegas valley have! Myself included, and we’ll get to that, but over the years OJ Simpson was frequently spotted around town. Especially if you live in the Summerlin area.
By now, you have definitely heard the news of Orenthal James Simpson’s passing. The former NFL football player, actor, and defendant in one of the most famous (and high profile) murder cases has died at the age of 76. OJ also lived in Las Vegas prior to his death.
Announced by his family on OJ’s social media platforms, it was revealed that the Juice succumbed to a bout with cancer on the 10th of April. According to their messaging, he was surrounded by his children and grandchildren at the time of his passing.

-The Simpson Family
Personally, I’ve seen OJ Simpson all over town throughout the years. I’ve seen him at restaurants. A few times, actually, at Siena Italian Authentic Trattoria and Deli on Sahara. The times I personally saw him there, he’d always be near their bar chatting up beautiful women.
I saw him once at the Target location in Boca Park, just walking around and browsing the shirts. But the most embarrassing time I encountered OJ Simpson was at the Verizon store, also at Boca Park.
My Awkward Encounter With OJ Simpson
It was a few years ago and it was finally time for me to make the switch to an iPhone. I had been a die-hard android guy up until that day, but I finally made the decision to switch to Apple’s device.
While at the store with my family, I noticed a lot of people taking my photo… Or so I thought. Now, I’ll be honest, for a moment I let my ego get the best of me. I briefly thought, “Finally! After almost 20 years on the radio, I’m getting the recognition I deserve!” and I even asked a woman if she’d like to take a photo with me.
Haha! That was not what she wanted! At that moment, I quickly realized the people weren’t taking pictures of me. They were trying to snap a photo of OJ Simpson, who I didn’t realize was standing RIGHT NEXT to me, looking at new phones too.
Five words came out of my mouth, “Oh, S**T! You’re OJ Simpson!”
OJ just looked at me, said nothing, chuckled, then walked away. When I tell you it was awkward, I mean — IT. WAS. AWKWARD! More so for my ego.
Listen, somewhere out there are photos of OJ Simpson with me in them, thinking those photos were of me. It’d be wild if any of those people stumble across this article. But if that happens, please send them my way! I’d love to see how silly I looked that day!
