The Boat Show At Lake Mead Made Ransom Cry Today
I was at the boat show at Lake Mead today doing a live broadcast. It’s something I’ve been honored to do for the past couple of years, and I’m really happy they trusted me enough to do another remote there today.
But something happened today that I wasn’t expecting… I got emotional.
I don’t know why, but I think it has everything to do with the fact that I just turned 40 last week. My parents are getting older, which is something nobody can stop, but THAT lake means so much to me. My parents made sure to make a lot of memories with my siblings and me there.
It’s like that John Mayer song, “Stop This Train” where John says, “…don’t know how else to say it, don’t wanna see my parents go/One generation’s length away from finding life out on my own.” I don’t know if you’re familiar with the song, but it’s beautiful and it’s something I’ve been thinking a lot about lately. I’ll post the video below if you’d like to hear it.
Also like the song says, the only thing I feel I’ve ever been good at is being young — And listen, I know 40 isn’t THAT old, but I’m definitely no spring chicken anymore and neither are my folks. Thankfully, I’m still lucky enough to have them around, but I also recognize that too many of my friends that I’ve grown up with cannot say the same.
Boat Show At Lake Mead, Memories And Life Lessons On The Lake
Is this what a mid-life crisis feels like? Haha… I’m honestly not trying to make this a sad post because all of the memories the boat show at Lake Mead reminded me of were good ones.
I learned how to bait a hook there. I learned how to swim in that water. I fell in love for my first time on a campground at Lake Mead. And if you asked my dad, he’ll tell you I drank my first beer there.
Here’s a little secret… it wasn’t my first beer. But it was the first one I had with my pops and to this day, it’s my favorite beer. It’ll probably be my favorite beer until the day I have one with my son. But that’s at least another 13 years away.
By the way, the On The Water Boat Show continues throughout the weekend. If you’d like more info about it, visit their website here.
