Jelly Roll: Why His Mother Wasn’t At The GRAMMYs
Jelly Roll walked the GRAMMY Red Carpet on Sunday (2/4) and spoke with Entertainment Tonight, who asked about his mother, Donna. Jelly said, “She’s watching. She wanted to come, but I was worried about her having a wheelchair and coming out on the carpet and stuff.”
He added, “She’s Facetimed me ten times today already. She’s fired up.”
Jelly then Facetimed his mom, live on the Red Carpet, telling her that everybody was “asking about ya.”
In the same interview, Jelly talked about bringing his daughter Bailee and wife to the Red Carpet and how it makes “a dream even better.”
As for the nominations, Jelly noted that being recognized by the academy and being here to represent Nashville and country music is what he came to the GRAMMYs to do. He added that he didn’t come to win; he came “to represent.”

Jelly did not win a GRAMMY over the weekend (2/4) in Los Angeles, but he did get “inspired” after the Best New Artist award went to Victoria Monet and not him.
Jelly posted a message to fans on his Insta Stories after the GRAMMYs. He wrote, “Just so we are clear – Victoria Monet deserved that award. She is incredible. She has been writing hits for everyone else for a long time, and she deserves every bit of that award.”
He added, “We come back next year stronger with more nominations – I’m inspired.”
In the next slide, he posted a photo of himself with Monet, congratulating her. The following slide showed a black-and-white photo of him hugging Taylor Swift.
Jelly Roll also posted a video clip to Instagram after the show. He told his almost 3 million followers, “Yo, I just got rained on; I just left the GRAMMYS; it was the coolest thing ever. I met Jay-Z, I met Stevie Wonder, I met so many people… I met Taylor Swift, what?” He then pointed out that it was the first time he had ever worn a designer outfit. His GRAMMY attire, a tan coat and pants, were by Louis Vuitton. Jelly closed with, “This is superfly. I felt handsome all night.”
