Here’s How You Can Adopt A Tortoise
I saw a story today that made me reminisce about my childhood. There’s one memory that always brings a smile to my face — the time our family welcomed Norman, a tortoise, into our lives.
Norman was more than just a pet; he was a part of our family for a decade. We created a cozy outdoor enclosure for him in our backyard. I remember how exciting it was to see him emerge from it each spring. But when my parents sold that house in Spring Valley, the new owners made a strange request. They asked to adopt Norman.
I remember having mixed feelings about it. Of course, I was sad to leave him, but I was also comforted by the thought that he’d be cherished by another family. I often wonder how he’s doing now. Tortoises can live for a long time, so I like to imagine that he’s still alive. They really do make such wonderful companions, and that’s why I’m thrilled to share this heartwarming story with you.
Valley Tortoises On The Move: Seeking New Homes Before Winter
Winter is knocking on the door and hundreds of tortoises are looking for new homes before they settle in for their winter nap. According to a Fox 5 article, the Arizona Game and Fish Department has been quite busy this summer, taking in a remarkable number of these slow and steady creatures.
As of now, the Arizona Game and Fish Department is playing host to around 200 tortoises. Most of these tortoises come in decent shape, but there are those with a few bumps and bruises. Ages range from little hatchlings to wise old-timers, who’ve seen the world change over the course of 80 years. The mission is clear – find loving homes for each tortoise before they go into their winter snooze.
Winter is a special time for tortoises, but it’s crucial that they find a cozy corner to call their own before the cold settles in. So, if you’re thinking about adopting or just curious about how you can help, don’t hesitate to reach out to the Arizona Game and Fish Department. To learn how you can adopt a tortoise, click HERE.
