Dan + Shay Join Charlie Puth on Heartbreak Anthem

I had a birthday on Tuesday. I turned 39. The final year of my 30’s. Funny enough, the very first “happy birthday” text on my phone when I woke up was from Dan Smyers, from Dan + Shay. A nice surprise and a wonderful reminder that even though they’re one of the biggest duos on the planet, they’re still some very down to earth people.

Country duo Dan + Shay have teamed up with pop singer Charlie Puth for a new breakup anthem called “That’s Not How This Works”. Written by Puth, Dan Smyers, and Jordan Reynolds, the mid-tempo song explores the struggles of someone who recently went through a breakup and is struggling to move on. Despite his attempts to get over his ex-girlfriend, she keeps leading him on with the possibility of getting back together, making it hard for him to move on.

“That’s Not How This Works” marks Dan + Shay’s first release since their album “Good Things” came out in 2021. The collaboration between Dan + Shay and Puth has been highly anticipated by fans of both artists, and it certainly does not disappoint.

With Dan + Shay’s signature harmonies and Puth’s soulful vocals, “That’s Not How This Works” is a heart-wrenching ballad that captures the pain and frustration of a breakup. The song is sure to resonate with anyone who has experienced the agony of a failed relationship and the struggle to move on.
