Nearly twenty years after the attacks which killed nearly 3000 Americans, the Taliban have retaken Afghanistan in a somber mark on the 20th anniversary of the tragedy. [Spencer Platt] / [Staff] via Getty ImagesThe 9/11 Memorial & Museum in New York City honors the 2,983 lives that were taken during September 11, 2001, and February 26, 1993, terrorist attacks. 2,977 lives were taken during the 2001 September 11 Attacks and six lives were taken during the 1993 World Trade Center Bombing.
Each of the names is inscribed in bronze on the 9/11 Memorial. The memorial is located at the World Trade Center site which is where the Twin Towers formerly stood. In place of the buildings lie two square reflecting pools surrounded by a forest of swamp white oak trees. The area covers eight of 16 acres which is a sanctuary of hope, resilience, and unity.
We pay tribute to those who lost their lives, were injured, and to those who risked their lives to help others in a time of need. The 9/11 Memorial & Museum commemorates the loved ones lost with a white rose in honor of their birth of life.
We as a community come together during the 20 anniversary to reflect and remember the tragedy our nation faced. With a united promise, we stand to never forget.
