Over Memorial Day weekend Chase Poust had the ultimate task to save his father and four-year-old sister that were stranded in St. Johns River in Jacksonville, Florida.

Chase and his sister Abigail were swimming while their dad was fishing on the family boat, according to WJXT. However, things took a turn for the worst when a strong current separated Chase and Abigail.

Immediately springing into action, dad Steven Poust jumped into the water to save Abigail. Soon after the father of two also found himself stranded in the water because of the strong currents.

“I told them I loved him because I wasn’t sure what’s going to happen,” said Poust in an interview with WJXT. “I tried to stick with both of them. I wore myself out. She drifted away from me.”

Steven then asked his son to swim to shore to find help. After an hour of swimming, Chase swam to a neighbors house to get help.

“I screamed for help at the top of my lungs and waved my arms and sure enough someone heard us,” said Poust in an interview with WJXT. “Little man also made it to shore and got help and that’s what saved our lives.”

Thankfully, Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department, Sheriff’s Office and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission saved the family.
