Remember as a kid it was so easy to make friends? We'd literally just ask another kid if they wanted to play or be our friend. Well, for one widower his story touched the hearts of many across the world.

Tony Williams, from Alton, England, put up a sign asking others to be his friend because he felt isolated after this wife passed away, according to Fox News.

The 75-year-old retired physicist even took out an ad at his local newspaper and made business cards asking others to chat or even hangout, but no one called.

That's when Williams made a poster and put it outside his window.

"I have lost Jo, my lovely wife and soul mate. I have no friends or family, no one to talk to. I find the unremitting silence 24 hours a day unbearable torture. Can no one help me?" read the sign.

"It’s my last resort. I’ve tried everything to make friends, but it feels like nobody wants to talk to me," said Williams, in a Fox News interview. "Not very many people pass my house, but I was hoping it would spread around the community, and someone might reach out."

After his story blew up on social media, Williams has been flooded with emails and responses from people from the U.S., Japan, Egypt, India, Australia and other countries around the world, according to GNN.

"The love and compassion people have shown has actually brought tears to my eyes. People have sent me the most delightful emails," said Williams, in a GNN interview.

"They’ve sent me pictures of their kids, their pets, told me about their aspirations and telling me they are thinking of me."
