Las Vegas Metro Police Department Dispatch announced yesterday morning that Officer Shay Mikalonis is paralyzed from the neck down and unable to speak, according to it's Twitter.

Officer Mikalonis will also remain on a ventilator for the rest of his life. However, he is able to recognize his family members.

"Because of the life saving work and care he received -at UMC-, Shay has tentatively been accepted to one of the best spine rehabilitation centers in the country," said Mikalonis' family in a statement.

Officer Mikalonis was shot in the head during a protest on June 1st, according to The Reno Gazette-Journal.

The 20-year-old suspect that deliberately shot Mikalonis was placed into custody on June 1st, according to The Reno Gazette-Journal.

On the other hand, with Mikalonis being a big Vegas Golden Knights fan, the organization has gifted Mikalonis with a team-signed jersey. The jersey will travel along with him to the medical rehabilitation center.

"Again, our family can never express our gratitude for all the support for Shay. We are always Las Vegas Strong and so proud of our community! Please keep Shay in your thoughts and prayers. Shay is still fighting the good fight! Pray for Shay," said Mikalonis' family.
