The gift of life is such a precious thing, so much so that a first time father was surprised at how nurses helped him by going the extra mile.
Will and Jennifer McKendree were expecting their first child amid the COVID-19 pandemic. However, Will is deaf and cannot hear, so he reads people's lips to communicate with them; unfortunately, since all nurses are wearing masks this is making communication very difficult for Will.
So, the wonderful nurses and medical staff at Sentara Princess Anne Hospital in Virginia Beach created see-through masks so that Will could be able to communicate with them!

"Basic communication and getting to know our patients and bond with patients, we felt like giving another avenue where he could be part of the conversation was really important," said Reagan Boomer, in a WTKR interview.
The plan to create see-through masks for Will didn't go unnoticed.
"I just started crying. It was very emotional," said Will, in a WTKR interview. "Not many deaf people can have this type of experience with others thinking about us and our access to be able to communicate."
Will and Jennifer brought in their baby girl Cooper Lynn on April 10.
Currently, the see-through masks are being shared throughout all Sentara facilities.
