Dolly Parton, Maren Morris, Kacey Musgraves Were GRAMMY Highlights
The Grammy Awards and the Grammy MusiCares Award Person of the Year put a positive spotlight on some of the women of country music; the Friday before the Grammy Awards, saw Dolly Parton honored as the MusiCares Person of the Year, the first country artist to receive the honor.
The show featured country and pop artists, including Little Big Town, Miley Cyrus, Shawn Mendes, Pink, Katy Perry, Chris Stapleton, Kacey Musgraves, Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood, Don Henley and others performing Parton’s songs.

As for the awards themselves, Kacey Musgraves won Best Country Album for Golden Hour, over Kelsea Ballerini, Ashley McBryde, Brothers Osborne and Chris Stapleton. Musgraves also took the top Grammy honor for Album of The Year as well.
It looks to be a great year for women in country. Looking ahead, Reba will return to her hosting position at this year’s Academy of Country Music Awards. Additionally, Carrie Underwood’s “Cry Pretty” tour kicks off in May and Kelsea Ballerini launches her headlining “Miss Me More” tour in April with Brett Young opening.
On April 1, country music stars like Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson, Miranda Lambert and more are filling Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena to pay tribute to Loretta Lynn at her “All -Star Birthday Bash.”
So far, 2019 looks to be a great year for women in country music.
