Our thoughts and prayers remain with Kenny Chesney and his family tonight.

Earlier, we reported that Kenny Chesney backed out of attending the Country Music Awards after a death in the family.

The country star was also slated to perform at the awards show.

At this time, the details surrounding the death have not been revealed, nor do we know who passed away in Chesney's family.

Despite the tragedy, the country artist took to Twitter after the announcement to address his Musical Event of the Year win.

Chesney wanted fans to know that sometimes artists hear a song that they feel compelled to be a part of, because the song portrays a message that people need to hear.

"Everything’s Gonna Be Alright" is a perfect example of this, and Kenny was happy to sing along with David Lee Murphy.

Big congrats to Chesney and Murphy.
