Garth’s “The Thunder Rolls” Gets Heavy Metal Remake

Garth Brooks "The Thunder Rolls" was a No. 1 for the superstar in 1991, an incredible 26 years ago. Great songs never die, though, and some are even reborn. Take a new version of the tune as recorded by Heavy Metal band All That Remains.

"We didn't want it to be too much like the original, but the specificity of the song limits it to what you can do," the band's frontman Phil Labonte tells Billboard. The song explores a woman's reaction to her husband's cheating, of course, and that hasn't changed. The song's sound, obviously, and its new video, has. "We didn't want to seem like we're trying to step on the toes of the original, but at the same time we weren't trying to change the message of the song," he continues. "I felt like something less specific would work best." See the end result below.

As for Garth's thinking on the new version, the band hasn't yet heard from him. "That would be really cool," Labonte says of the possibility. In the meantime, they're contemplating cutting an acoustic version of the song. Read more here.
