Gregg Allman To Be Honored At 2017 CMT Music Awards

All hail Gregg Allman.

The recently passed Southern Rock originator and longtime frontman for The Allman Brothers Band, will be honored by some of country music's premiere talent next week in Nashville during the 2017 CMT Music Awards.

Tribute performances from Jason Aldean, Darius Rucker and Lady Antebellum's Charles Kelley are now planned, according to the network. "Gregg Allman and The Allman Brothers Band helped create the bedrock foundation of modern southern music," CMT President Brian Philips says in a statement. "Over the weekend following his death, CMT's most important artists reached out to see how we might honor Gregg at our awards. This tribute will celebrate Gregg Allman's soul, charisma and enduring artistry. 'The Road Goes on Forever,' indeed."

Kelsea Ballerini and Little Big Town have also been added to the night's general list of performers, joining previously announced performances by Blake Shelton, Brett Eldredge, Luke Bryan, Miranda Lambert and Thomas Rhett, along with live collaborations by Chainsmokers and Florida Georgia Line, Keith Urban and Carrie Underwood and Earth, Wind & Fire and Lady Antebellum. The network has promised even more surprises, however, and more details are expected in the coming days. The 2017 CMT Music Awards air June 7.
